Stratosfair develops an independent cloud that stands up to environmental challenges. The solution: design and build local datacenters, powered by renewable energy produced locally.

With the arrival of 5G and the ever-increasing flows of data exchanged, greenhouse gas emissions will increase significantly in coming years. The digital world is not immune to the widespread awareness of climate change. However intangible it may be, data storage is an energy consumer. Recent news has highlighted a new issue: the large amount of water consumed by data centers. With the recent months of intense drought, this issue will become more and more important. 

Stratosfair was born in 2020 following an insight from its founder, Bérenger Cadoret. Thinking about how he could reduce the environmental impact of digital technology, he decided to focus on datacenters. These buildings house entire rows of computer bays to which computer equipment is connected. Clearly, they are major energy consumers. 

Stratosfair's mission is to rethink the model by developing the first network of local, independent and low-carbon data centers. The objectives set by the team of this Lanester-based start-up are based on several pillars. First of all, they want to allow companies and local authorities to store their data in a secure and low-carbon datacenter. Stratosfair allows Digital Services Companies to offer responsible services.

Responsibility is at the heart of Stratosfair's approach. By controlling the value chain from building construction to datacenter operation, Stratosfair provides each of its customers with a carbon meter. Clients know the real impact of hosting their data in the environment. This also sets Stratosfair apart from its competitors. 

The company’s project aims to make a significant contribution to developing regions within France. It aims to boost regions by making players more aware of their digital responsibility, and to reduce the digital divide in France.

ECO-FRIENDLY DATA CENTERS
Each datacenter is composed of four containers resting on concrete blocks (2 technical containers and 2 IT containers). Each IT container is composed of 8 bays 600*800 - 42 U. A solar shade over the containers generates the power supply for the installation and a greenhouse puts fatal heat to productive use.

Stratosfair datacenters are built in converted containers resting on concrete blocks, allowing modular design and limited land impact, avoiding excessive land conversion.
They are naturally insulated with a green wall on the south wall, protecting the installations in summer and winter. A solar shade, with optimal inclination, guarantees full southern exposure of the photovoltaic panels, while allowing the rainwater runoff to feed the green wall.
The waste heat emitted by the servers is used internally to regulate the temperature of the IT rooms. The Morbihan-based start-up is looking to the future; its model can be quickly replicated. 

The company’s success in raising funds time after time is proof of the solidity of the concept and their ability to bring investors on board.
